Palm Tree

50.8 degrees north and 0.56 degrees west

This fibrous trunk has washed ashore

A palm tree from the tropics

Ripped from a Caribbean island beach

By hurricane or heavy storm

And carried over the great Atlantic

Thousands of miles of waves and troughs –

Or possibly just blown along the English Channel from Torbay, Boscombe or Bognor Regis

Where the presence of black-billed parrots would be quickly remarked on.
