Enjoy the journey

They are long and short
How time stretches and creases
Distorts memory
.
n.b. When life gets complicated how do we keep a grip on what is important?
How do we keep strong? I have a pebble I found over 2 years ago. I keep it with me in my pocket. My touchstone. It works for me. What works for you?

Separation
Leaf from stem
Releases the bough
To face winter’s drag
Saves the tree
Winter buds all ready
For spring
.
n.b. The following website considers the timing of arboreal leaf growth. The discussion about winter bud formation is found at the foot of the article.

Her smile is wider than her head
A photo shows this when she was ten
Her brilliant eyes then shone so bright
Her teeth gleaming in black and white
And still after many colourful years
When distant childhood memories may bring on tears
She has that smile as wide today
What might spark it I cannot say
But it reveals like an evening primrose bloom
A late afternoon sunburst that fills the room.

I took a moment to rest
On this Armistice Day
In France
Where a public holiday is taken
To remember that all they have now
Was hard earned
The ultimate price paid
By millions

In row 23, next to me
I wasn’t alone

n.b. Separation provokes a range of emotions. Hope for the prospect of reunion is the best of them. Every kilometre travelled distant is one kilometre travelled closer.
