On Courage

give voice to silence
dreams held tight mere fantasies
what is there to lose

As children we played

It, British Bulldog and Kiss Chase

until told not to.

On Endings (i)

Poets invest time

In every word, not just

Memorable last lines

Semaphore Flag Signalling System

Crazy as this seems

There are only five bits to the word “ERROR”

And only three letters

E, R, O

But once someone in the know

Along time ago

Decided that when using Semaphore flags

EIGHT ‘E’s are needed

To signal a mistake

In the message being sent

Now I must admit

After eight ‘E’s

I might be flagging

In fact

I’d be on on my knees*

*This is a just a light-hearted poem, I am not promoting drug use. Taking ecstasy (“E”) can result in serious illness, long-term side-effects and has on occasions resulted in death.
