We will draw a bloody line through the squalid mess of it
Bitter mountains, impoverished plains, rivers drained of love
Forget it, walk away. As if conjoined twins ever could.

n.b. NaPoWriMo 2024 Day 28 prompt: Sijo, a Korean poem form.
My picture is of the Korean War memorial in Washington, D.C. It is one of the most evocative works of sculptural art I have ever seen. It ranks alongside the memorials found in France that communicate the grief suffered from the loss of lives in the 1914-1918 war.
Here, in D.C. the sculptures capture the isolation, drudgery and hardship of the common soldier far from home, fighting who knows who, for who knows why, in miserable weather conditions.
