Suffolk fields heard the roar
Of engines fired up
As the 446th took off for France
For liberty
They led the line
Into Fortress Europe
n.b. This memorial stands at the site of the disused airbase, near Flixton, Suffolk. No names given, just the numbers: 66 aircraft lost, 456 men killed in action. ‘Remember them’ we’re told.
