The North Stand
Up these steps, here we go
To see the lights, the pitch
Our team in blue
We are the Blue Army of Portsmouth FC
The Pompey Chimes our famous tune
When I sit in the North Stand
I think of my Grandad, my parents, my family
This is our team
We stand together and never give up
Play up Pompey! Pompey play up!
There is nowhere quite like Fratton Park
A proper ground with proper fans
We support the team through thick and thin
We play a part in each Pompey win
This is our home, Fratton Park
Right from the start until today
The team and club at our city’s heart
The famous fortress of Portsmouth FC

n.b. A piece of writing commissioned by Portsmouth Football Club to go on a wall in the new internal concourse of the North Stand Upper, a structure initially designed and constructed in 1934 to a design by Archibald Leitch. The opposing South Stand, a classic Leitch design celebrates its centenary in 2025.
I have corrected one line, since the piece went up on the wall, ‘never’ replaces ‘do not’ in the second stanza.
