The Cows, Vincent Van Gogh
Be warned, don’t run

Look at them charge down the hill
When the farmer releases the gate
They leap and kick, gallop
You can feel their thunderous hooves
Drumming through the turf

See how they clear fresh pasture
Wordless, effortless, immediate
Two or three in league
Corral the sheep
Butt the tardy lambs under the electric wire
Stake their claim

Curious they’ll approach you
Enquire of your business
Lick, sniff, dribble, blow
In assessing your purpose

Walk and they’ll follow
Run and they’ll think nothing
Of hunting you down

~

n.b. Cows have more intelligence than many might credit them. Respect them. Don’t run. NaPoWriMo 2025 Day 27
