on winter

new year's day ends with a stunning light show
the Sun demonstrating its power in a silent slow burn
the shift gradual
from a touch of pink outlining the clouds
to this vermillion daubing of the sky
broad brushed streaks
stroked up and out from the very core of our star
giving depth to skeletal trees
over-whelming all that is white
the Earth glows red
who else saw it?
who glanced up from a screen?
who stepped outside to brave the north wind
to bathe in this light?
I have seen nothing more beautiful
than this fire in your eyes
