Mayfly Soliloquy

(Mayfly enters from below stage)

Perfect conditions for flying today
Out of the water as soon as it's warm
The air is calm, so I can go high
Straight up toward what must be blue sky

(Rises)

I've read the manual
The instructions are good
Fly, mate, die, no need for food
Just one day is plenty to be
The very best version of me
To experience life in the merry month of May
But lo! What does the calendar say?
Climate disruption has pulled a fast one
It's NaPoWriMo,
I'm alone in the sun.

I enjoyed your mayfly point of view poem, Chris, including the stage directions and the conversational tone. Maybe humans would be kinder and nature-friendly if they had only one day to be their best version.

It would certainly focus the mind! Thank you for flying by.
